CCZ START –Committed to Training as a Critical Tool for Preserving the Safety and Security of NGO’s and Their Beneficiaries
No NGO worker should ever be sent overseas without this basic training. Trainings are based on similar means and methods developed for US DOS and UN personnel—If it’s a requirement for them-it should be a requirement for all NGOs.
START has developed multiple layers of training for all aspects of humanitarian operations-Our curriculum includes:
I) Basic Training for NGO Field Staff and Security Managers
- Orientation and Introduction for International Deployments: employee responsibilities; situational awareness; know the threat; stay alive/be safe; country/region/threat specific orientation.
- Security Risk Management and Planning for NGO Field Security Professionals
- Security Risk Management and Planning for NGO HQ or Regional Security Managers
- Site Security--Evaluate and Organize field site security for NGO compound, office, camp, residence security
- Identifying and Dealing with Explosive Devices. IED and weapons recognition and avoidance
- Wilderness Medicine--what to do when there is no formal expert medical care or evacuation available--(3-7 day courses available)
- Surviving a Kidnapping and / or rape
- Driver Training including evasive driving and off road driving (2-4 day trainings)
II) Executive Level Security Risk Management
- Introduction to Risk Management Based Security Planning
- Recognizing Threats and Assessing Risk
- Assessing an Organizations vulnerabilities
- The Organizational Assessment
- Developing security measures using the threat assessment and vulnerability analysis
- Organizational Policies, Directives, Requirements (reflective of amount of risk an organization can tolerate)
- Crisis Management
- The Organizational Security Risk Management Master Plan
- Scenario-based planning exercises
III) Customized Security Risk Management and Crisis Response Trainings Performed on Request of Partnering NGO or Donor
START will develop a training tailored to the specific INGO and their operating environment and Security & Safety Risk management master plan.
